Egyptian Inspiration

Last year, my family and I went to the Yale Peabody Museum. My youngest son was really excited about seeing the Egyptian exhibit and the idea of seeing a mummy. I was excited about seeing real Egyptian jewelry. The first evidence of jewelry making in Ancient Egypt dates back to 4000BC. Due to flash glare, I was unable to get a picture, but I found this picture of a piece in a museum in Cairo.
What struck me was their use of Carnelian (the red/orange stone) and Turquoise. When reading about it, I found that was a common combination, and that Lapis Lazuli was usually added as well, especially with royal jewelry. While I didn't go with the Egyptian collar  look, here's what I came up with.

The Egyptians usually used gold as a base and to show status, I chose copper. Both because I liked how it looked, and so that I could actually afford to make it. I love this color combination. The Egyptians felt that the power of Turquoise needed to be balanced by the "calming properties" of Carnelian.

What do you think the Egyptians did on #fashionfriday? Party like an Egyptian, wear your jewelry and drink some barley beer!
